A Rainbow for Grown-Ups (and Anyone Who Still Likes Joy)
As millennials we’re always accused of wanting everything to be shades of cream, white or grey – aka the famed Millenial Greige. And when we do opt for color it’s often sold to us in muted, desaturated tones …But not everything in your home has to be serious. Nor must it match the aesthetic of your fresh Trader Joes eucalyptus cuttings, your macrame plant pot holder or your never-to-be-burned-yet-always-perfectly-arranged scented candles; sometimes, it’s okay to let a little fun sneak in there. I promise you.
Some objects exist purely to make you smile, and the subject of today’s review is one of them. It’s bright, whimsical, and unapologetically colorful – shifting the mood of whatever room you drop it into.
The Rainbow, Reimagined
Look closely and you’ll notice something interesting: the colors are reversed. In the real world, red sits at the top of a rainbow. Here? Pink gets the top spot.
We may never know for sure why the designer did this, but my best guess is that there’s solid design theory behind it. If they had used a traditional spectrum, the uppermost (and therefore the widest) arc would cast the strongest hue – meaning your room would get blasted with a rich, red light. Cozy if you’re running a speakeasy, but slightly too much in an everyday setting.
By flipping the order and placing pink, blue, and green at the top, the lamp creates a softer, more balanced glow. The light feels fresh and clean rather than being overwhelming. And honestly? It’s fun that the rainbow is a little upside-down. It gets the idea across, but with an arty wink.
Neon vibes, Without the Neon Hassle
The lamp borrows the visual language of neon artwork but translates it into a safer, lighter, more accessible form. Neon is beautiful, but it’s also fragile, finicky, and power-hungry. This lamp gives you all the nostalgic glow without the headache. LEDs sip electricity, run cool to the touch, and won’t shatter if your cat decides to go full ninja on it.
It should be said that this isn’t a task light by any stretch – it’s a vibe. The materials and scale make it more of a design accent than a functional lamp, and that’s exactly the point.

In practice, the lamp is delightful. It’s cheerful without being tacky, and nostalgic without feeling kitschy. Everyone who sees it comments on it – not because it’s expensive or high-end, but because it radiates a kind of harmless, unpretentious joy. People respond to it - and in that sense it’s almost the definition of good design.
It runs on either three AA batteries or USB power, which means you can put it anywhere. The battery option is great for birthdays, themed parties, or places where an outlet is nowhere to be found… but let’s be honest, even with LEDs running the show, you’ll burn through AAs fast enough that USB is the way to go for day-to-day life. Still – the flexibility is nice to have. I was certainly grateful for it while taking the photos for this piece.
Final Thoughts
