IKEA | Klipplax Glass

First up in the IKEA spotlight series is something deceptively simple: the Klipplax glass. It’s, well, a glass – but it’s one that feels like it deserves more attention than it usually gets. Available in both 8oz and 14oz sizes, it’s dishwasher safe (because of course it is) and is built for everyday use. But what sets it apart is the design.

Run your hand over the outside and it’s perfectly smooth, but look again and you’ll see a flowing spiral pressed into the inside wall. That detail bends and refracts the light, turning even water into something more interesting. The way it catches a sunset or a bare-bulb glow is quietly mesmerizing.

I’ve become a big fan of the 8oz version. We’re constantly told to drink more water, to hit some magic number of glasses a day – and in practice, 8 ounces feels like the perfect serving for a single hydration session. It’s enough to be refreshing …but not so much that you end up abandoning the last warm half-inch at the bottom.

They also stack like a treat, which is perfect if your kitchen cupboards are already working overtime. And despite their sturdy appearance, they’re remarkably lightweight. The hand-feel is excellent – balanced, easy to grip, and surprisingly refined for something this affordable. Prices listed at the time of writing are $0.99 for the 8oz version, and $1.49 for the 14oz. At those prices, you don’t have to overthink it too much – you can basically outfit a whole cupboard without guilt.

It’s an everyday object with just enough design magic to remind you that the smallest details matter. For a deeper dive into how glass and light play together, see my earlier Filtered Bliss piece on transparency and distortion – but for now, just know this: the Klipplax is more than “just a glass.” It’s a tiny IKEA triumph.
